BEIJING on Friday rejected concerns about China’s threat days before its planned massive military parade to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China.
According to the white paper released by the government called “China and the World in the New Era“, the belief that China is a threat to the world is rooted in misunderstanding and a deep-rooted prejudice.

The white paper said China has the world’s largest army and second-largest military budget after the U.S. In recent years, it repeatedly threatened Taiwan, a self-ruling democracy, which Beijing sees as a breakaway province, with military intervention.

It has also militarised disputed territories in the South China Sea and opened its first overseas military base in Djibouti in the Horn of Africa, which it said needed for UN peace missions.

“The Chinese nation does not have the gene to invade others and dominate the world. From the mid-19th century, China was abused by the Western powers and left with indelible memories of the suffering brought about by war and instability. It will never impose the suffering it has endured on other nations,“ the paper said.(dpa/NAN)
