THE people of Barkin Ladi State Constituency have advised their representative, Mr Dickson Chollom (APC/Barkin Ladi), to forget party differences and work with Gov. Caleb Mutfwang.
The constituents, who bared their minds on Saturday in Barkin Ladi when they organised a reception in honour of Chollom said he would attract more democracy dividends to the constituency by synergizing with Mutfwang.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Chollom was among the nine members that were recently inaugurated by the Speaker of the 10th Assembly, Gabriel Dewan.
The Gwom Rwey Fan (District Head of Fan), Chief Iliya Daswei, told the lawmaker to unite stakeholders across political divides for the good of his constituents.
Daswei told him to see other political leaders as members of a family working toward the same goals and objectives.
“The goal of anybody who occupies any position, whether traditional or political, should be to work for the people, not for himself or herself.
“If you are a political leader, know what the people want and work for them because power belongs to the people.
“There is unity in diversity and strength if you want to work for the peace and prosperity of Fan District, Barkin Ladi, and Plateau in general,” he stated.
Mr Iliya Joro, one of the organizers of the reception, said the event was actually organized to show appreciation to God for giving Chollom the opportunity.
“We organised something like this so that people would come and show their joy and happiness and celebrate with him.
“As a matter of fact, the victory is not for Chollom alone. It’s for us, all members of the Barkin Ladi Constituency.
“As you can even see here, there are people who are not even of the APC, people from other parties. They have also come because of the person, Dickson.
“He was in the APC; the governor was in the PDP during the campaigns and elections, but as he stands now, it is governance. He is a legislator, the governor is an executive, and they are supposed to work together.
“Both of them are Plateau, and you know, it’s all about Plateau now. It’s no longer about parties,” he added.
Another constituent, Mallam Awal Tanko, advised Chollom to work on the security situation with Barkin Ladi and also empower youths and women.
Chollom, in his remarks, thanked the people for the mandate and assured them that he would do his best to attract dividends of democracy to the constituency.
The lawmaker said that he would work seamlessly with the governor and synergise with other leaders for the benefit of the people.
“This is what I am already configuring myself to do for the benefit of Barkin Ladi constituency and Plateau at large.
“It’s time for governance, and it behoves on me to give all the necessary cooperation for the governor and his team to succeed in his governance.
“This is destiny; this is how God has planned it, and for me as a Christian, it is my responsibility to pray earnestly and always for the success of this government, so that at the end of the day, the dividends of democracy will be felt by my own people,” he stated.
NAN reports that the people prayed for the lawmaker to have a successful tenure. (NAN)
