THE Princeton Leadership Forum Africa (PLFA) has urged board members of Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) to ensure the conduct of credible local government elections in the state.

PLFA President, Dr Chibuike Echem, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, said that a credible local government electoral process would drive sustainable socioeconomic and infrastructural development in local communities.

He congratulated the board members on their appointments.

Echem said the assignment given to them was a testament to their professional credentials and commitment to high ethical standards for public service and an accountable democratic process.

“As you embark on this pivotal role, it is important to state the responsibilities ahead of the commission.

“The upcoming local government elections represent a significant moment in the state’s democratic journey.

“The integrity of these elections will shape the future of public service and political leadership recruitment at the local levels.

“It will improve the quality of governance outcomes and impact the lives of residents in Anambra through the local government administration, which is the closest government to the people.

“I urge the chairman and commissioners of ANSIEC to approach the sacred duties of their solemn mandate with unwavering commitment, diligence and dedication to high standards of public service excellence.

“The principles of inclusivity, electoral integrity, transparency, accountability, and credibility must be the cornerstones of your operations.

“Governance at the local level is fundamental to our sustainable democracy and inclusive socioeconomic and infrastructure development of Anambra.’’

He said that the local government administration provided the much-needed platform where the needs and voices of the people were directly addressed.

The president said that by ensuring a free, fair, and credible electoral process, the board could contribute not only to a healthy democracy but also to the strength and progress communities.

“We have full confidence in your ability to deliver on these expectations/responsibilities and to lead the ANSIEC with integrity and excellence.

“Your role is instrumental in driving the renaissance of democratic values we cherish at the grassroots levels and in ensuring that the electoral process is inclusive and equitable for all.

“Together, let us work towards deepening the quality of governance at the local governments for the purposeful development of all Anambra people. (NAN)
