A humanitarian support group, Yazid-Shehu Danfulani Foundation, on Sunday began the fumigation of Zawiyya community, Gusau Local Government Area against Mosquitoes.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NGO is founded and sponsored by Zamfara Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Alhaji Yazid Danfulani.

Speaking at the event, Danfulani said  the fumigation was part of its activities to commemorate the 2022 World Humanitarian Day.

Danfulani was represented by the Foundation’s State Co-ordinator,  Mr Rufa’i Gusau.

“The aim of the project is to kill the adult mosquitoes that actually spread the malaria disease.

“This is an annual event in line with our foundation project in health sector, to complement the state government’s efforts under Gov Bello Matawalle in malaria eradication across the state.

“We are starting with Zawiyya community today particularly in the Zawiyya Qur’anic School, considering the  number of pupils in the school.

“We are going to visit many areas across the state; our target is the fumigation of all vulnerable communities.

“We are going to spray ponds, swampy areas and refuse collection centres to kill the larvae of the mosquitoes,” Danfulani said.

In his remark, Dr Atiku Balarabe, Special Adviser to Gov Bello Matawalle on Islamic Organisations, commended the foundation for the gesture and described it as a timely and welcome development.

“We consider this project as humanitarian service as it will help in preventing the spread of malaria in our communities.

“We pray for the sponsor and any one that contributes for the success of the exercise as it will give succour to the common man,”  Balarabe said.

The Chairman, Zawiyya Qur’anic School, Sheikh Usman Tambuwal, said the gesture was in line with the teaching of Islam.

Tambuwal called on well-meaning individuals to emulate Danfulani by investing in the service to humanity. (NAN)
