HASIYA Ibrahim Sani Foundation secured the release of 25 prisoners from the Kurmawa Central and Goron Dutse Correctional Centres in Kano on Tuesday.

As the released inmates were leaving the correctional centres, the Director of the Foundation, rehired Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Sani, charged to be of good conduct.

Sani also appealed to the authorities to decriminalise petty offences and substitute them with hard punishments to decongest the correctional centres.

According to him, if hard labour such as environmental cleaning and other community services are meted, convicts will avoid committing offences to avoid public attraction.

Those released expressed gratitude to the Foundation for securing their freedom and pledged to shun criminal acts.

The offences of the released inmates included drug peddling and addiction, phone theft and disturbance of public peace.

The Foundation also donated computers equipped with biometric gadgets to Kurmawa and Goron Dutse correctional centres.
