NO fewer than 20 young girls have benefitted from a two-day Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and financial management training in Minna, Niger State.
The event which was organised by the Salma Attah Foundation for Women and Girls Support (SAFWGS), in partnership with Wisdom ICT Solutions, is tagged “Salma Attah Girl Code Bootcamp.”
The foundation disclosed this in a statement signed by Ms Amrah Aliyu, Team Lead, SAFWGS, on Sunday.
She said that the programme, which is its second annual boot camp was organised to commemorate this year’s Women History Month.
According to her, aside the ICT and financial management skills, the young girls were also trained on data analytics skill, basic graphic design skill, interpersonal and development skills.
“The boot camp is open to young girls between ages 17 to 27 in all the states of the Federation and we aim to equip them with globally sought-after tech skills, which will help them seize work opportunities across the world.
“The need to train women and especially young girls on tech skills is intended to break gender bias and social stigma that hinders women from pursuing their dreams in the field of tech or any other male dominated field.
“That is why we are advocating for creating an equitable, diverse and inclusive environment that will enable women to become pioneers of progress in tech with their growth unfettered by gender constraints,” she said.
For his part, Mr Isah Salihu, Founder, Wisdom ICT Solutions, added that the training became imperative due to the low figure of women in tech space in the state.
“We believe that every woman has the potential to transform her life and thrive regardless of her circumstances.
“That is why we initiated this training and so far the participants have been performing excellently well,” he said.
Ms Aisha Abdullahi and Ms Hadiza Gbodoti, participants at the training, appreciated the group, adding that the training was educative and had exposed them to not only data analytics but how to be of good conduct in whatever they do.(NAN)
