Three men and a woman on Thursday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, over alleged conspiracy, stealing, assault and threat to the life of their family member.

The defendants – Edirin Tugba, 38; Dafe Tugba, 34; Tuba Laifa, 34, and the female, Sarah Tugba, 5 7 – are facing the charges before Chief Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Akpan Nkem, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Aug.10, at 10.00 a.m. at Check Point on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Nkem said that the defendants threatened the life of Mrs Maria Tugba over a property.

“The defendants broke into the property of the complainant, Mrs Maria Tugba, without her consent, and stole a cash sum of N250,000, gold jewellery and clothes valued at N500,000.

“The defendants assaulted the complainant by dragging her down from a motorcycle and kicking her leg which resulted in an injury.

“They also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by damaging the key to the complainant’s gate,” the prosecutor said.

Nkem noted that the alleged offences contravened Sections 287, 56, 310 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The chief magistrate granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties should be gainfully employed and has evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government. He adjourned the case until Oct. 5 for mention. (NAN)
