FREIBURG long-serving boss Christian Streich doesn’t rule out ending his coaching career in the near future.

“I feel that I am getting older. The strength is fading, it is now foreseeable,” he told the 11Freunde football magazine in an interview.

“I find myself thinking more and more often: How much energy is left to get to the players? And when I realise that it’s no longer enough and it takes a younger person to reach out to the players, I will stop,” he said

Streich has coached Freiburg since 2012 and played an important role in the club’s development. Recently, the team reached the Europa League twice and also made it to the German Cup final once.

Streich extended his contract in March, but details, such as the expiration date, are unknown. He categorically ruled out an engagement with another, possibly financially stronger club.

“For me, that’s no longer an option. Now all the energy that is still left is invested here, and I decide with those responsible year by year whether I will continue,” he said. (dpa/NAN)
