A 39-year-old freight forwarder, Gilbert Eneche, who allegedly converted N1. 2 million realised from sales of his employer’s goods, on Monday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrate Court in Lagos State.
Eneche, a resident of Ogun State, however, pleaded not guilty to a count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that Eneche committed the offence on Aug. 23, at Omnibus Company located at No. 8, Jimoh Odutola St., Off Eric Moore, Surulere, Lagos.
Ekhueorohan alleged that Eneche, who was in charge of shipping goods to customers, fraudulently converted the money to his personal use.
According to Ekhueorohan, the offence contravenes Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mrs M. I. Dan-Oni, granted Eneche bail in the sum of N200, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until Oct. 28 for trial. (NAN)
