FRSC confirms 15 dead on Lanlante-Eruwa road

THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State Command, has confirmed the death of 15 persons in Friday’s accident on Eruwa-Lanlate road in Ibarapa East Local Government area of the state.

It was earlier reported that no fewer than 20 persons were burnt to death in the accident which occured on the road at about 2.05 p.m. on Friday.

Confirming the actual number of death to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, the FRSC Sector Commander, Joshua Adekanye said 15 people died in the accident.

Adekanye said the accident involved two vehicles occurred at Maya junction.

The sector commander said the two vehicles – a Toyota Sienna Bus and Toyota Hiace – had an head-on collusion resulting in the fatal accident.

He said that all the 15 persons involved in the accident were burnt to death.

Adekanye attributed the cause to speed violation in an attempt to avoid a pothole.

The commander said that the body of six of those killed were immediately recovered by their families while the remaining nine were deposited at General Hospital Eruwa.

He said that the rescue was done by the community and witnessed by the Chairman, Eruwa Local Government, Mr Gbenga Obalowo. (NAN)
