THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Delta Sector Command, has said it will deploy 565 Regular Marshals and 410 Special Marshals to manage traffic during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The Sector Commander, Mr Bassey Eshiet, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba on Wednesday.

Eshiet said that 565 Regular Marshals and 410 Special Marshals will be deployed across the major highways to address the possible traffic congestion during the Yuletide.

According to him, the 2022 Operation Zero Tolerance commenced on Dec. 20 with a specific focus to ensure that road users enjoy a smooth ride throughout the festive season.

“Priority will be given to all the locations that have been identified as traffic jam prone areas,” saying that a  total of 35 patrol vehicles, three tow trucks and five Ambulances have been deployed for the special operation in Delta State.”

The Sector Commander urged motorists to obey all traffic managers during this period.

“Only light vehicles could use the Koka fly-over and motorists going to Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Imo and Abia States can use the diversion on the 2nd Niger Bridge.

NAN recalls that Mr Raji Fashola, Minister for Works and Housing, had said that the bridge would be open from Dec. 2022 to Jan. 2023 to ease traffic on the first Niger Bridge.

“The command would collaborate with other sister security agencies and stakeholders to boost operational activities and ensure strict enforcement of critical offences.

“Such offences include overloading, speeding, worn-out tyres, route violation, excessive smoke and drunk driving,” he said.

The Sector commander urged motorists to drive with caution, to arrive alive as only the living could celebrate. (NAN)
