FRSC Excels in Sports as Oyeyemi Promises More Support

THE Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, sports teams have presented various trophies they won for the 2016 Championship to Boboye Oyeyemi, Corps Marshal of the FRSC. The trophies which were presented in the presence of the FRSC Management team drew applause from members who expressed appreciation to the teams for the feats.

In the 2016 Nigeria Handball Premier Championship Leagues, the FRSC Safety Shooters for the male and FRSC Safety Babes for the female won Gold Medals each.

Speaking after receiving the trophies from the Captains of the various teams, the Corps Marshal, expressed satisfaction with the level of discipline and sacrifice made by the players, saying as a human-centred organisation, FRSC has responsibility to contribute to the physical and mental development of not only its staff but the country at large.

According to Bisi Kazeem, head, Media Relations and Strategy, FRSC, Oyeyemi said over the years, FRSC has not let the nation down in its consistent participation and contributions to sports development in the country, noting that the Corps has been dominating in Handball and continue to be active in other competitions as part of its corporate social responsibility to the people of Nigeria. He promised to invest more in sports for individual sports men and women to excel in their various competitions.

“I must commend the players for the dedication they have shown in winning the trophies. I am aware of the sacrifice, dedication and patriotism the teams exhibited during the training and competitions, and happy that they did not disappoint FRSC,” he stated.

The Corps Marshal enjoined other staff to excel in whatever they do, noting that as an organisation that was built on the values of selfless service, FRSC will not accept excuses for failure from any staff. Oyeyemi further promised to invest more in sports and promotion of welfare of the sporting staff to enhance their performances.

Presenting the report of FRSC’s participation in sport activities before members of the Management, the Head of FRSC Sports Section, Deputy Corps Marshal Mato Zubairu disclosed that the FRSC Football Team participated in the 2015/2016 FCT pre-season Football Tournament in which the team won in Amateur and Professional Leagues. This he said, made the third time that FRSC will triumph in the Leagues, having won same in 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 respectively.

In Wrestling, Mato noted that FRSC team participated in the FCT Combat Sports Championship held between March and April this year. According to him, participants in the Championship included Military and Para-Military in which FRSC teams won Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals in the Championship.

With FRSC’s triumph in the National Handball Premier League for 2016 in both male and female categories, the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) has nominated the female team, “The Safety Babes,” to represent Nigeria at the African Cup Winners’ Cup Championship holding in Burkina Faso, while the male team, “The Safety Shooters” will compete in the African Club of Champions in Abidjan, Cote’ d Voire.

As a demonstration of his reward for hard work by staff, the Corps Marshal charged members of the Management to individually make voluntary financial pledges for the welfare of the team members. In response to the appeal, not less than one million naira was raised for the teams, while the Corps Marshal pledged more welfare and promotion as well as financial support for the winning teams.
