THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), says it will partner the Nasarawa State Traditional Council in order to ensure the reduction in road crashes in the state.
Mr Lucia Samuel-Mhii, Sector Commander of FRSC in the state, stated this during a courtesy visit to Emir of Lafia and Chairman Nasarawa State Traditional Council, Retired Justice Sidi Bage-Mohammed on Tuesday in Lafia.
According to Samuel-Mhii, who assumed duty on May 6, the visit is to get the blessing of the emir as well as unfold the collaborative plans of the corps towards ensuring safer roads.
She maintained that the rate of road crashes in the state was unacceptable, adding that efforts must be made to reduce it.
The sector commander identified human factors such as speeding, overloading, dangerous overtaking, drinking and driving, bad state of vehicles as causes avoidable accidents and loss of lives and property.
She said that the Federal and State government have constructed new roads and rehabilitated old ones and wondered why the rate of road crashes was still high.
Samuel-Mhii, therefore, called on road users to be cautious while using the roads in order to reduce crashes.
The sector commander congratulated the Emir on his fifth year on the throne and wished him more years in good health.
Responding, Bage-Mohammed appreciated the sector commander and her team for the visit and promised to collaborate with her to enlighten the people on safer ways to use the roads.
The Emir said that traditional rulers across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state would do everything possible to secure the lives of their people by supporting the command in her efforts to ensure safer roads.
“We will also talk to our people to obey traffic rules and we will support the corps to sanction anyone that disobeys traffic rules,” he said.
He assured the FRSC team that traditional rulers would support the planned town hall meetings with stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the alarming rate of road crashes.(NAN).
