THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Zamfara has initiated partnership with the State Fire Service for training of its personnel to tackle fire emergencies on highways.

The FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Umar Massaudu, during a courtesy visit to the Director, State Fire Service Board, Mr Abdullahi Jibbo, in Gusau on Wednesday, solicited for the partnership.

Massaudu said that the main purpose of his visit was to enter into a partnership with the state fire service for training and retraining of  FRSC personnel on fire fighting for effective rescue of accident victims.

He said that some times road crashes involved fire outbreaks, therefore, the skills to operate fire fighting tools was very critical to save lives and properties.

The sector commander also appealed to the state fire service to assist the command with fire extinguishers and other fire fighting tools.

In his remarks, Jibbo promised to render support and cooperation to the corps.

“We are very ready to provide you with the necessary fire preventive tools and mechanism.

“When FRSC personnel can effectively fight incidents of fire outbreaks during accidents, more lives and property will be saved,” the director said.

Similarly, Massaudu, during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, appealed to the traditional ruler to support the corps in its safety campaigns to reduce road accidents.

“As a father, whose words reach the ears of all, we are requesting that you talk to roads users and the general public to be safety conscious on the road always.

“We remain grateful for your advice and other support of all kind,” he said

Responding, Bello thanked the sector commander and his team for the visit and promised to continue to support in the area of advocacy to ensure safety on the roads.

“I believe enlightenment is paramount in the your service so I will sustain calls of awareness to all citizens for the safety of all,” he said. (NAN)
