FRSC records 301 accidents in 2017 in Bauchi State

THE Sector Head of Operation, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Bauchi State Command, Mr Paul Guar, on Thursday said that 301 road accidents were recorded in the state in 2017 with 153 persons killed.

Guar stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi, adding that 1,541 people and 415 vehicles were affected during the incidents.

“Out of the people involved, 1,388 people were injured and 153 people were killed.

“Out of the total number of the accidents, 52 were fatal, while 174 were with serious injuries and the remaining number were minor.

“This is against the number recorded in 2016, where we had 169 people killed and 1,176 sustained injuries as a result of road traffic accidents within our jurisdiction,” he said.

According to him, during the 2017 Ember Months, the command arraigned 172 offenders with various offences such as using mobile phone while driving and non-compliance with seat belt, among others.

”Five mobile courts sat during the ember months and 165 motorists were convicted, while seven were discharged.

The head of operation said the exercise was conducted in partnership with the State Judiciary. (NAN)
