FRSC solicts stakeholders partnership to tackle road crashes in Sokoto
General News
THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has solicited partnership with stakeholders to reduce road crashes especially during the ember months.
Mr Kabiru Yusuf-Nadabo, the Sector Commander in Sokoto State, made the call at the flag-off of statewide ember months campaign, at Kwannawa motor park in Sokoto on Wednesday.
Yusuf-Nadabo warned motorists to avoid speeding, dangerous overtaking, overloading and use of expired tyres on their vehicles to curtail road traffic crashes.
He noted that the annual event was aimed at raising awareness on the need for motorists to embrace road safety culture.
”The last three months of the year is usually marked by increased vehicular movements, making our roads very busy as drivers hasten to make more money.
”This is why you see motorists, particularly commercial drivers overloading their vehicles, indulging in speeding, dangerous overtaking and use of unsafe or expired tyres,” he added.
The sector commander, therefore, urged motorists to adhere to traffic rules and regulations, so as to have accident-free ember months.
Earlier, the state Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Akibu Dhalhatu, also urged motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations.
Dhalhatu, who represented Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, said that road safety should be a collective responsibility and called for more support to the FRSC in its bid to make the roads safer for all users.
He said there was need for aggressive awareness campaign to educate motorists to abide by traffic rules and regulations at all times.
“Motorists should plan their journeys carefully and avoid hasty and night travels.
“When such crashes happened at night, there are always more causalities and deaths, because those victims will not be able to get help on time,” Dhalhatu said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that lectures on road safety rules, vehicles condition and need for community partnership in road safety management were presented at the event.

NAN received the best supporting media organisation award at the event.
Awards were also presented to some media organisations, traditional rulers and road transport workers, among others. (NAN)
