RABI Ismail, a Nigerian actress who escaped from prison about six years ago, after being sentenced to death has been recaptured.
Ismaila, the condemned Hausa film actress, had escaped Hadejia Prison on December 16, 2011, after she was sentenced to death by a high court in Kano on January 5, 2005.
According to Francis Enobore, the spokesperson for the prisons authorities, Ismail was recaptured by the intelligence unit of the Nigerian Prisons Service with the support of men of the Department of Security Service, DSS.
In July 2011, the Supreme Court upheld the sentence of the lower courts that sentenced her to death by hanging for killing Auwalu Ibrahim, her boyfriend, to acquire his property. The court found her guilty for drugging and drowning Ibrahim in 2002 in Kano. Before her arrest, Ismaila, popularly called Rabi Cecilia by her fans, was said to be very ruthless. She was very popular and she’s said to know top politicians. She lived at the alleged notorious Abedi Street of Sabon Gari, Kano, as a prostitute. The single mother of two was said to have spiritual powers so no one dared say anything bad about her.
The comptroller general of prisons expressed appreciation for the assistance rendered by security agencies particularly the DSS and the police in arresting the fugitive. He urged the general public to continue giving information that would rid the society of outlaws like the Rabi Ismail. He assured that security measures had been strengthened to prevent persons in prison custody from escaping.
