TOTTENHAM “didn’t put in the effort” and need a “big wake-up call” after their defeat by Fulham at Craven Cottage, says captain Son Heung-min.

Knowing a win would take them back into the Premier League top four, Tottenham were well below par in a 3-0 loss.

Rodrigo Muniz scored either side of Sasa Lukic’s strike while Spurs failed to find the net for the first time in the league under Ange Postecoglou.

“It is unacceptable, including me it was unacceptable,” Son told Sky Sports.

“Everybody has to look in the mirror and say ‘it is my fault’.

“It was not good enough. We didn’t put in the effort we have put in this season. The performance, the attitude was not good enough.

“Everyone has to make a big wake-up call.”

The poor performance came despite Spurs going into the game on the back of victory against Crystal Palace and last weekend’s impressive 4-0 win at Aston Villa.

Fourth-placed Villa can now regain their five-point cushion with victory against West Ham on Sunday.

“This was not close to what we have been doing this season,” Son said. “It is very sad to watch this. The fans don’t deserve this.”

Speaking to Match of the Day, Postecoglou added: “Our final third play wasn’t great. But it’s more the overall play that was disappointing.

“There are things we’ve done all year we’ve prided ourselves on, our intensity and tempo, but that wasn’t there in the second half.”
