BRITISH heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, is livid with the outcome of his world heavyweight bout against Oleksandr Usyk and has called for a rematch.
Fury began the fight at the King Fahd stadium in Riyadh as the better fighter and delivered some jabs at his Ukrainian rival.
However, Usyk swung the fight in his favour in the ninth round with some devastating punches that almost floored the 37-year-old Fury whom he could have fought back in February before the fight was postponed.
Fury believes the split decision that went Usyk’s way was tinged with sentiments.
“I believe he won a few of the rounds, but I won the majority,” ‘the Gypsy King’ as Fury is affectionately called in the boxing fraternity stated defiantly.
“It was one of the daftest decisions in boxing. I’ll be back. I am ready for a rematch,” Fury added.
Usyk, who revealed he denied himself the company of his family for most parts of his preparations, said it was a great moment for his war-torn country.
“Thank you so much to my team. It’s a big opportunity for my family, for me, for my country. It’s a great time, it’s a great day.”
A possible rematch is expected to hold in October 2024 albeit both fighters are heading to holidays for a few weeks with their families.
