THE foreign ministers of the G20 countries would discuss the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, climate protection and aid for Africa on Tuesday in Matera in southern Italy.

The Group of 20 major economies includes the United States, China, India, Russia, Germany and the EU.

The Matera talks would be held ahead of a G20 leaders’ summit in Rome at the end of October.

German Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas, said before the talks that the focus would be on how to help the global economy get back on its feet after the virus crisis and face future health challenges.

“Now is the time to adapt global health structures for future health crises,” he said.

The G20 had already agreed on principles for stronger cooperation at a digital World Health Summit in May.

According to these, there should be no more export bans or supply chain bottlenecks like there have been in this pandemic.

The G20 meeting also marks the end of U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s week-long trip to Europe. (dpa/NAN)
