A former Lagos lawmaker, Mr Dipo Olorunrinu, has applauded the Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi’s leadership acumen engendering defections of opposition members into the party.

Olorunrinu, in a chat with newsmen on Friday, commended Ojelabi for actualising defection of former two-term PDP Rep. Oghene Egoh as well as other PDP leaders and Local government executive of the opposition party in Amuwo-Odofin LGA to APC on Thursday.

“With this latest success and other defections into APC across the state, I am bold to say that Ojelabi has proven to be a square peg in a square hole,” Olorunrinu who represented Awuwo-Odofin Constituency I in the 8th Lagos State House of Assembly, said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Egoh, who represented Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2023 under the PDP, defected to the APC along with PDP LGA executive members and other top members of the party in the area.

Olorunrinu applauded Ojelabi with the state for the ability to move Egoh and most of the LGA exco of the PDP in Amuwo Odofin to the APC and for receiving them with open hands.

He said: “This is not a small feat at all. The state chairman must be applauded. We have recorded much progress under Ojelabi’s leadership.

“We can see what is happening in Amuwo-Odofin LGA with over 2,000 crossing to the APC.

“Last month, so many opposition members from PDP and Labour Party also defected into APC in Yaba, Lagos Mainland.

“The chairman has been populating the party and this will make the forthcoming local government elections and 2027 general elections much more effortless for the party to win.”

He said that the chairman had also done a lot uniting the party and repositioning it for total victory, even when election was still far away.

“His (Ojelabi) activities have led to the success of the party. He has united us. We have someone who knows how to steer the ship of our party to the right destination,” Olorunrinu, a former PDP lawmaker said.

According to him, the recent defection is the beginning of better days in Amuwo Odofin chapter of the APC.

While welcoming Egoh and others into the party, Olorunrinu said that he was sure the defectors would be given opportunity to realise their dreams.

He said that APC remained a progressive party that rewarded hard work and loyalty.

According to him, the ruling party has been doing its best to make life better for the masses, and that whatever challenges the nation is facing at the moment will soon be over.

“Nigerians have a lot to gain by supporting the APC as the party at both the national and state levels mean well for the people and will always be there for them.

“Our party is one with the love of the people at heart. Whatever we are doing is for their benefits.

“You can see what Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu is doing in Lagos State and what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been doing to reposition the nation.

“There is no gain without pain, we need to bear with the government so that our nation can get out of the woods in due course,” he said. (NAN)
