GAMBIA’S Omar Alieu Touray will be unveiled as the new President of the ECOWAS Commission at the Accra Summit on Sunday, 3rd July. He replaces Ivorian Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, at the helm for the past four years.

The regional leaders are also expected to elect a new rotational Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority to succeed Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, who has served for almost two years.

Touray will be heading a seven-Commissioner Commission, down from the wasteful 15-member structure.

With 3 member States under army rule, how will the new management tackle the critical challenges facing the 15-nation regional bloc, such as the telling leadership and institutional deficiencies, resurgence of military incursions & regression of democracy in the region?
