Former President of the Senate, David Mark, has described the demise of the former military Governor of Bauchi and Sokoto States, retired Lt.-Gen.Garba Duba, as a huge loss to the country.

Mark said that Duba was a respected soldier who contributed to the social economic and political development of Nigeria.

This is contained in a statement issued by his Special Advicer on Media, Paul Mumeh, in Kano on Friday.

Duba was military governor of Bauchi state between 1978 and 1979 under Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo as head of state, and in Sokoto from 1984 to 1985 under Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s military regime.

“Today, we mourn the loss of a true hero and distinguished officer and a gentleman.

“His life was dedicated to serving his country and protecting its territorial integrity. His legacy will forever be remembered in the hearts of those who had the honour of serving alongside him.

“Duba was a man of great integrity, courage, and strength. His leadership was unparalleled, and his unwavering commitment to his duty inspired all who knew him.

“His strategic thinking and exceptional skills earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues as well as the trust of his superiors.

“Throughout his career, Duba faced many challenges and obstacles, but his determination and fearless spirit never wavered.

“He led by example and his selfless dedication to his country was evident in every decision he made,”he said.
