Anti-Corruption Research-Based Data Initiatives (ARDI), an NGO, on Tuesday appealed to Nigerians to have confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari’s pledge to truthfully fight corruption.

Mr Denis Aghanya, Executive Secretary of ARDI, said in his Sallah message to Muslim faithful in Lagos that Buhari’s actions in the past weeks showed his total commitment to fight corruption.

“In the past weeks, the President has demonstrated his commitment and determination to fight corruption and ensure good governance in the nation.

“Buhari has revealed that good governance must thrive by sacking the former DSS Director-General, Mr Lawal Daura, for an act of insubordination, which in itself, is tantamount to corruption.

“The political will to take that decision demonstrates the level of determination by the present regime to fight corruption.

“ARDI is pleading with Nigerians in the spirit of the Eid, to keep faith with Mr President in his resolve to fight corruption,’’ the statement said.

It advised politicians to desist from corrupt tendencies, to ensure a hitch free 2019 general elections.

The statement also called on Muslim faithful to submit themselves fully to the will of the Almighty Allah and the service of mankind, as they celebrate the festival.

It urged them to learn to sacrifice for others, especially the less privileged, just as Prophet Abraham did to Allah.

The statement also urged Nigerians to live in peace with one another.

“If we can rise above personal, group, sectarian and other interests, there will be peace and harmony in the land.

“There is no need to fight ourselves, as Nigeria and her proceeds belong to every citizen, irrespective of where you come from,’’ the statement said. (NAN)
