The Nigerian Union Local Government Employees (NULGE) has inaugurated a seven-member Caretaker Committee for the Anambra Chapter of the union with a mandate to conduct election within six months.

Mr Nankpak Njomiri, the Acting National Caretaker Chairman of the union, who inaugurated the committee, urged the team to initiate the process for the election as soon as possible.

Njomiri said the setting up of the caretaker committee was in line with NULGE constitution, which provides that there shall be election into executive committees that have spent two terms.

“The National Industrial Court sitting in Owerri on July 11 ruled that tenure elongation is a nullity, so those executive councils that have outstayed their legitimate two tenures like Anambra don’t have business remaining in office.

“Our constitution is what binds us together and says where election cannot be held, a caretaker committee should be put in place to oversee the affairs and conduct election within three months.

“As you take over the mantle of leadership in Anambra, do not exhibit that character of sit-tight syndrome but organise election as soon as possible so that people will see something unique,” he said.

Members of the committee are: Mr Val. Onuora, Chairman, Mrs Chinyere Obiazi, Secretary, Mr Arunna Victor-Mary, Vice Chairman, Ms Ngozi Nnolim, Auditor and Mr Edochie Anekwe, Trustee.

However, the Welfare and Public Relations Officer of the committee were absent during the inauguration.

In his acceptance speech, Onuora thanked the national caretaker committee for their unrelenting struggle for the soul of NULGE.

He promised to adhere to the term of reference and provisions of NULGE constitution by conducting election within the specified time.

“On behalf of colleagues, I want to thank you for finding time to come from Abuja and set up this caretaker committee in Anambra, and more importantly your effort in seeing that the union does not die.

“I assure you that in the shortest possible time, you will see great difference in Anambra chapter of NULGE,” he said. (NAN)
