GERMAN Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock to continue her four-day visit to Iraq on Wednesday with political talks in Erbil, the regional capital of the autonomous Kurdistan region.

Baerbock is scheduled to meet Kurdish Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday morning.

She then planned to meet Kurdish President Nechirvan Barzani later in the day.

Baerbock is also scheduled to visit a camp for internally displaced people who were driven from their homes by the Islamic State terrorist militia in 2014.

The German minister was also expected to visit a documentation centre for crimes committed by Islamic State.

During her visit to Iraq, Baerbock said that Germany plans to continue working with Iraq and other international partners to fight Islamic State.

Several years ago, the terror group managed to control large areas of Iraq and Syria.

Although a U.S.-led military coalition helped liberate more than 4.5 million Iraqis from Islamic State, cells have continued to carry out occasional terrorist attacks.

Germany’s army, the Bundeswehr, is training Kurdish security forces in Erbil in the fight against the group. (dpa/NAN)
