THE Republic of Germany organised a seven-day basic training course for operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Abuja.
Mrs Annett Gunther, the German Ambassador to Nigeria, speaking at the opening session on Wednesday, stated that the training aimed to enhance the Nigerian government’s fight against human trafficking.
“The German government, through the German Mission in Nigeria and the German Federal Criminal Police (BKA), has consistently supported NAPTIP since its inception.”
Gunther commended NAPTIP’s dedication to protecting vulnerable members of society and dismantling trafficking networks.
The ambassador also inaugurated the newly renovated NAPTIP resource centre, made possible through the BKA.
“The centre will serve as a hub for knowledge, information, and training, equipping NAPTIP with the necessary resources to tackle human trafficking complexities.
“Additionally, the German government donated essential office equipment to NAPTIP, including desktops, projectors, and tablets.
“This donation aims to facilitate NAPTIP’s work, streamline processes, and lead to more effective interventions in the fight against trafficking.”
NAPTIP Director-General, Hajia Binta-Adamu Bello, expressed appreciation for the German government’s support, stating that the training and resource centre renovation would enhance NAPTIP’s capabilities in investigating, protecting, and prosecuting human trafficking offenders.(NAN)
