THE Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Ghanaian Petroleum Commission, Kanni Touray says that Ghana’s Local Content policies and regulations have been shaped by the experiences and developments in Nigeria.

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer who was represented by the Deputy Director, Contract Administration of the Commission, Judith Adjobah Blay made the remarks while presenting his goodwill message at the 13th Practical Nigerian Content forum in Yenagua, Bayelsa state on Tuesday.

According to Adjobah Blay, Ghana sees Nigeria as the giant on whose shoulders it can stand and see further.

She expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Content Development and Content Monitoring Board, NCDMB, that Ghanaian companies now have other options apart from the traditional joint venture partnership approach.

She noted that the relationship between the Ghana Petroleum Commission and the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board which began with a brief encounter between Simbi Wabote, former Executive Secretary of the NCDMB and it’s leader in 2023, has led to the signing of the MOU in October, 2024 to cement the existing relationship between the board and the commission.

The purpose of the MOU, according to her, is, among others, to formalize the technical and business cooperation between the two institutions.

“The board was so gracious to share its learnings and created the opportunity for some Nigerian companies to engage with the indigenous Ghanaian companies to explore mutual business opportunities we are very grateful to the board for that opportunity as a fairly new entrance into the oil and gas resource exploitation

Through this collaboration, she revealed that Ghana has reviewed its laws to allow for non-indigenous Ghanaian companies to be able to operate in Ghana through either protected alliances or channel partnerships with indigenous Ghanaian companies.

She explained that the Ghan Petroleum Commission team was at the PNC because it believes that collaboration is crucial as African nations that are resource rich not only for the purposes of developing local content, but enhancing intra-African cooperation while it looks forward to attracting exploration and production investment to boost local content.

“We are hopeful that together we can build a more impactful African Petroleum industry, one that projects our capabilities and our strengths. We look forward to learning from deliberations at this year’s forum to improve our implementation strategies.” she said.
