–

THE sponsorship agreement between Globacom, Nigerian telecommunications giant, and the League Management Company, LMC, under which Glo had sponsored the Glo Premier League for more than a decade, has officially ended.

The last sponsorship agreement which started in the 2012/2013 league season ended after the completion of the 2016 Super Four football tournament which was held in both Kaduna and Uyo.

Globacom has been in the forefront of sport sponsorship in Nigeria since it started operations in 2003.

During the period, the Globacom spent more than N8 billion to promote the Nigerian Premier League apart from the huge sums committed to sponsorship of the national teams and other sports sponsorships in the past 12 years.

The LMC is, thus, expected to unfold a new multi-sponsorship arrangement which will see different companies sponsoring the league through different platforms.

According to information from the LMC, the body is already negotiating with Zenith Bank and Etisalat, a telecommunication firm, with regards to the sponsorship of the Nigeria Professional Football League.

But there are anxiety in the LMC if a deal would be struck before the start of the 2016 season slated for February 21.
