GOC charges officers to exhibit highest level of discipline, professional competence

THE General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan, Maj.-Gen. Gold Chibusi, has charged officers and soldiers in the division, to always exhibit the highest level of discipline and professional competence.

Chibuisi gave the charge on Friday at the closing ceremony of the division’s Inter-Brigade Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Competition at the Ekehuan Cantonment, Benin.

He explained that the competition was organised with a view to ensuring that the participants were well trained to undertake more challenging responsibilities in line with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

He reminded the participants of the enormous responsibilities and critical roles expected of them.

The general officer commanding expressed optimism that the competition must have contributed towards achieving the vision.

“You must know that aside from breaching the gap between officers and soldiers, you are required to always exhibit the highest level of discipline and professional competence.

“Thus, I expect better outputs from you all after this event. Take your gains back to your units and formations and put them to good use.

“The competition is emplaced with a view to ensuring that you are well trained to undertake more challenging responsibilities and critical roles, in line with the overall vision of the Chief of Army Staff,” he said.

The GOC also said that the competition was designed to improve the warrant officers and senior non-commissioned officers’ proficiency in leadership, organisational ability and endurance.

Chibuisi urged the participants to keep the flag of the division flying high in their operational and administrative activities by ensuring that the “lion” remained strong.

According to him, the “lion” is the symbol of strength.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 4 Brigade, Benin emerged the overall best in the 2021 competition with 480 points.

The 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, emerged second with 470 points, while the 2 Division Garrison, Ibadan, clinched the third position with 390 points.

The formations that participated included 4 Brigade Benin; 22 Brigade, Ilorin; 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure; 2 Division Garrison, Ibadan; and 42 Division Engineers/52 Signal Brigade/Engineer Construction Command, Ibadan.

The activities competed for were drills, combat swimming, map reading, weapon/shooting and physical.
