THE Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has felicitated with its members who have been given political appointments recently. Realnews reports that four members of GOCOP, who have been picked to serve at the different levels of government, include Malachy Agbo, Olufemi Oladapo Soneye, Rasheed Olawale, and Teslim Adeyemi Ajagbe.

The latest of the appointments was made by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, who announced Soneye as its chief corporate communications officer, CCCO.

Soneye succeeds Garba Deen Muhammad, who retired on May 18. Before his appointment, Soneye was publishing the Per Second News, an online publication. He has gathered cognate experience working in various parts of the world including United States and Australia.

Prior to the Soneye’s appointment, GOCOP’s  pioneer president and a member of its board of Trustees, Agbo, who recently bagged his PhD, was sworn in by Peter Mbah, governor of Enugu State as commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication. Agbo, also served Enugu State meritoriously as the chairman of Igbo Etiti Local during the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. He is the publisher of The Citizen, an online publication which he established in 2012, before his forays into politics.

Reacting, Maureen Chigbo, president of GOCOP and publisher of Realnews, applauded the appointments and enjoined them to remain good ambassadors of GOCOP while counting on the guild for maximum support.

A press statement by Remmy Nweke, GOCOP publicity secretary, quoted Chigbo as recalling that other GOCOP members Olawale of Sahel Standard, and Ajagbe of August24news,

were also recently appointed as the spokesperson to the Osun State Governor, and special adviser on Digital Communications to the Lagos Island Council chairman, respectively.

She wished all the political appointees success in their new roles, reiterating that the guild was ever ready to support and partner with them to ensure they delivered on their mandates.

GOCOP, a registered non-governmental, non-partisan, non-profit organisation, comprises owners of online publications. It recently held its annual national conference in Abuja.

The conference was chaired by Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), while the first Nigerian professor of Capital Market, Prof. Uche Joseph Uwaleke of Nasarawa State University Keffi, delivered the keynote.
