
Golf unites Nigerians, promotes character development – Runsewe

THE President, Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF), Olusegun Runsewe, says the game of golf is uniting Nigerians and promoting character development in the society.
Runsewe, stated this during the tee-off of the Graduation Tournament organised in honour of Senior Executive Course (SEC) 45 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), kuru, near Jos.
He was represented by Thaddeus Yilmen, a member of the NGF board representing North-Central and Chiarman, Nigerian Golfers Association in Plateau.
Runsewe described golf as a ‘game of life’
Runsewe said that golf is not a game for only the rich as being perceived.
He insisted that the game is open to people of all walks of life devoid of status, race or creed.
”Golf is a game of life and it is open to all category of people in the society. It enhances our mental alertness and physical wellbeing.
”It has been a uniting force for us because golf doesn’t know religion, tribe or political party.
”It is about character development and it provides avenue for Nigerians, both young and old to meet and discuss the future of our dear country,”he said
Runsewe, who commended NIPPS for organising the competition, promised to support any initiative that would promote the game and further unite Nigerians.
On his part, Ayo Omotayo, Director General of NIPPS, said the tournament was organised as part of activties marking the graduation of the SEC 45 of the institute.
Represented by Fumi Para-Mallam, Director of Studies of the institute, Omotayo said that NIPSS had been a breeding ground for Policy makers, hence the essence of the tournament.
He said that golf as a game promotes healthy environment which is in tandem with its theme for the year, ”Industrialisation, Energy Security and Climate Change in Nigeria”
Omotayo said the competition would create avenue for recreation for the SEC participants and other members of the public.
Bgmibgmitawuza Solomon, chairman of the organising committee for the tournament and National Vice President of NGF, said golf dvised instills the virtues of honesty and integrity in people.
Musa Umar, Captain of NIPPS Golf Club, said over 100 golfers from different parts of Nigeria participated in the tournament.
Umar said golf is a strategic game and aligns with the goal of NIPSS, which is building leaders who think strategically in taking critical decisions.(NAN)
