Gombe traditional ruler pledges scholarship for 100 youth

ALHAJI Umar Atiku, Emir of Akko in Gombe state, Alhaji Umar Atiku, has pledged scholarship for 100 youths to study at the National Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) in Kumo, Gombe state.
Atiku made the promise in Kumo on Thursday when he visited the institution to inspect facilities installed and abreast himself with courses offered.
He said the decision to sponsor the youth was informed by the increase in number of restive youth in the society.
Atiku assured that the emirate was committed to helping and supporting youth to harness their potential and develop the school sited in his domain.
While calling on spirited individuals in the society to assist by sponsoring the youth and less privileged, the Emir said government had done its part by sitting the institution in Kumo.
“Having the institution in our domain is a rare privilege; now it is left for us to do the needful by utilising it properly,” he said.
Earlier, the liaison officer in charge of NITT Kumo, Mr Samson Yila had commended the Emir for the visit.
Yila said that the institution was established to provide training to personnel in the business of transport services, as well as unemployed youths and women.
He said that the programmes offered at the institution included Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma and Masters in Transport and Logistics.
“The institution combined human ingenuity and technological innovations to develop the capacity of the workforce, make transport and logistics industry more effective and efficient, and stimulate economic growth and development,” he said.
He said some of the courses offered in the institution included Information Communication Technology (ICT), Welding and Fabrication, in addition to maintenance of vehicles, especially car painting. (NAN)
