Gov. Bello inaugurates N360m capital projects at IBB University Lapai

GOVERNOR Abubakar Bello of Niger on Friday inaugurated capital projects worth about N360 million at the Ibrahim Babangida University Lapai.
Bello, while inaugurating the projects, said the state government would continue to accord priority attention to the basic need of the university.
He said that the government embarked on the projects because of its commitment to providing required infrastructure to ensure academic excellence.
He explained that the state government committed the sum of N 110 million on the construction of convocations centre with good access roads.
He said that the about N70 million was spent on the procurement of two 500 KVA generators to enhance power supply.
“We have constructed a staff clinic with modern health facilities at the cost of N80 million’’, he added.
He explained that the project would go a long way in meeting the health care needs of the staff and students.
Bello, represented by Alhaji Ahmed Ktsu, the Deputy Governor, said that the state government spent N4 milion to upgrade the Micro finance bank building.
He said that, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) spent about N100 million to provide automated metro logical centre to the university.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mohammad Maiturare, lauded the effort of the state government in providing peaceful atmosphere for academic excellence.
He called for more funding to enable the university provide basic infrastructure that would enhance academic learning.
He said the university was in dire need of additional hostels to accommodate rising increase in the number of students.
The vice chancellor explained that of the 11,000 students at the university, only 2,000 students were accommodated.
He, however, assured that the management of the institution had taken concrete measures to address its accommodation problem through collaboration with private developers.
Maiturare added that the second phase of the hostels project was expected to commence immediately after the completion of the first phase and its handing over to the university. (NAN)
