Gov. Okowa forwards names of nominees to State Assembly for sceening, approval

GOV. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta has forwarded to the House of Assembly, the name of a nominee, Chief Stephen Ajusah, for screening for re-appointment as member of the State Judicial Service Commission.
The name of the nominee was contained in a letter read by the Speaker of the house, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, during plenary on Wednesday in Asaba.
According to Okowa, the current tenure of Ajusah as a member of the commission would end on Sept. 8, and due to the sensitivity and the nature of the position, there is need for continuity.
The Majority Leader, Mr Tim Owhefere, moved a motion for the house to receive the letter for consideration.
The motion which was unanimously adopted through a voice vote, was seconded by the Minority Leader, Mr Innocent Anidi.
The speaker directed the nominee to submit 35 copies of his Curriculum Citae to the Clerk of the house on or before Aug. 26, and appear for screening on Aug. 27.
Also, the speaker read a letter from the governor reconstituting the Governing Board of the Delta State Investments Development Agency (DIDA).
Okowa, through the letter, nominated for screening, Mr Paul Nmah as Chairman of the agency and Chief Lucky Omoru as the Director General.
He said that the reconstitution of the governing board of DIDA followed the expiration of the tenure of the board and in exercise of the powers conferred on him by the law establishing the agency.
Consequently, the majority leader moved a motion for the assembly to receive the letter for consideration and the motion that was adopted was seconded by the Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Oboro Preyor.
Oborevwori also directed the nominees to submit 35 copies of their Curriculum Vitae to the clerk of the house on or before Aug. 26, and appear for screening on Aug. 28.
Meanwhile, the speaker while welcoming members to plenary after its three weeks break, said the legislative business of the Seventh Assembly had commenced as the assembly was already working on two bills.
The bills are the Delta State Job and Wealth Creation Bill and the Delta State Judiciary Fund Management Financial Autonomy Bill.
“This seventh assembly will continue to perform its duties for the common good of the people,’’ he said.
