GOV. Uba Sani of Kaduna State on Friday in Zaria inaugurated Bryan Sharwood Smith House, an office complex for the Zaria Metropolitan Authority, to enhance effective service delivery at the local government level.
Sani said the establishment of the three metropolitan authorities at Kafanchan, Kaduna and Zaria in September 2021 was to strengthen service delivery.
He explained that the three authorities were designed based on the Abuja model and would function as single integrated entities.
He added that the authorities would neither replace the local government councils nor would the authorities replace them.
Sani said the authorities were simply City Managers who would add value to the already established roles of the local government authorities.
According to him, the Zaria Metropolitan Authority covers Zaria, Soba, Sabon Gari and Giwa Local Government Areas.
“I am pleased to inform you that since its inception, Zaria Metropolitan Authority has made significant progress in carrying out its mandate.
“It has performed services in the areas of road constructions and maintenance, solid waste collection and disposal services, supply and installation of solar street lights and enhancing security services, among others,” Sani said.
The governor, therefore, commended the administrator of the authority, Hajiya Balaraba Inuwa, and her team for their commitment to service delivery.
He also restated his resolve to provide enabling environment that would endenger rapid socio-economic development in the state.
Earlier, the Administrator, Zaria Metropolitan Authority, Hajiya Balaraba Inuwa, commended the governor for inaugurating the edifice, which she described as rich in history.
According to her, the foundation stone of the building was made on April 1, 1939, recalling that the building was then known as Provincial Office and it was used by the administrator of Zaria Province.
She added that the building housed 10 administrators of the province.
Inuwa said the authority remained committed to its mandate and restated that it would work with key stakeholders to achieve the vision and mission of the authority. (NAN)
