The Enugu State Commissioner for Information, Mr Ogbuagu Anikwe, says Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s second term will create more development for foreign and local investors to thrive in the state.
Anikwe disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu while reacting to the victory of the state governor in the March 9 governorship election.
According to him, the state capital will be upgraded to an international city in order to attract more investors.
The commissioner said that the transformation of Enugu would be of utmost benefit to the government and residents of the state as that would create wealth and jobs for them.
He added that the second tenure of Ugwuanyi would be action-packed as the governor would continue in his aggressive transformation agenda in the state.
“The governor has been doing his best. One thing we should understand is that Enugu State is sitting fifth from the bottom in terms of federal allocation.
“This is a governor operating under that kind of financial constraint and he is able to do much more than most governors that have more allocation.
“Ugwuanyi has been able to put in place an internal revenue generation mechanism that supplemented what the state gets as federal allocation,” he said.
Anikwe said that the policies of the state government were driven by people with the mental capacity and emotional quotient to manage the ministries and other agencies of the state government.
“What the governor is going to do this time around is to ensure that Enugu becomes an international city in order to attract funding easily from public and private sectors,” he said.
On the victory of the governor at the polls, Anikwe described it as a ‘pace setter’.
“The victory of the governor is record breaking. We have never heard a candidate recording 95.9 per cent of votes cast and leaving 2.2 per cent to the nearest challenger.
“This was achieved due to the administrative style of the governor. His peace initiatives and development strides laid the foundation for the records,” Anikwe said. (NAN)
