GOV. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has issued a January 31, 2025 deadline for all landowners in the state to register or renew their Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O), warning that failure to comply will result in revocation of their land titles.

The announcement was made by the State Commissioner of Land and Physical Planning, Abduljabbar Umar, during a press briefing on Wednesday in Kano.

Umar emphasized that all landowners, including those who acquired properties since the creation of the state, must immediately proceed to the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning to complete the registration process. He also stated that all current C-of-Os would become invalid after the deadline.

“If you may recall, on November 25, 2024, during the re-commissioning of the Kano State Geographic Information System (KANGIS) building, Governor Abba Yusuf officially launched the recertification exercise for all Certificates of Occupancy issued by the Kano State Government. He urged residents to seize the opportunity to register or renew their property documents,” Umar said.

The Commissioner highlighted the benefits of the recertification exercise, which includes modernized land management through the state-of-the-art KANGIS infrastructure.

“The new system eliminates manual processes, reducing errors, manipulation, and delays in land transactions. The new C-of-O certificates also feature advanced security measures, making them nearly impossible to forge and safeguarding property owners against fraud,” Umar added.

He urged residents to act promptly, emphasizing the importance of securing accurate and reliable ownership records to prevent future disputes and protect investments.

Governor Yusuf’s initiative aims to streamline land management, enhance security, and provide landowners with a seamless process for securing and updating their property titles.

The government has reassured the public that the recertification process is affordable and efficient, ensuring landowners enjoy the benefits of updated records and fortified property rights.

Residents are advised to visit the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning or KANGIS to begin the process before the January 31 deadline. – vanguard
