GOV. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has urged residents in the state to have confidence in the public education system.

Yusuf made the appeal on Thursday in Kano at the flag-off of distribution of books to public schools in the state, stressing that his administration remained focused, committed and resolute to get education right.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items distributed are; 120,000 cartons of chalks, 97,532 workbooks and 93,600 exercise books.

Other items included 199,234 classroom registers, 350,000 reports sheets, 351 lesson observations books and national anthem books.

“I stand before you today as we take yet another step towards getting the education sector on its foot in Kano State.

“This is revival of the unfortunate state of the education sector in Kano State with  deteriorating infrastructure, and high number of Out-Of-School children.

“I am happy to say that as the people’s government, we are fully committed to address these issues in our commitment to restore the educational system,” he added.

The governor said that among the priorities of his administration were the training and retraining of teachers as well as construction of new blocks of classrooms and massive rehabilitation of schools.

Yusuf said that this was to ensure a conducive learning environment for boys and girls in schools.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Mr Umar Doguwa commended the governor for his untiring support to the education ministry as well as his commitment towards reviving the sector.

He said the declaration of a`State of Emergency’ on education by the governor has been a promise well delivered beyond expectations.

“His Excellency has declared a State -of-Emergency in Education, implying that Education is now receiving priority in Kano state.

“This will help students improve their performances as instructional materials including book have so far been distributed to secondary schools,” the commissioner said.(NAN)
