Government bans vending of Inflammable Materials in Markets in Anambra

ANAMBRA State Government, ANSG, has directed that traders involved in sale of inflammable goods inside various markets relocate to a designated area.
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra gave the directive, while receiving a report of a recent fire incident at the Nkwo Ogbe, Ihiala, Anambra State.
The report was presented by a panel of enquiry constituted by the governor.
Obiano had instituted a panel of enquiry on April 29, incident to ascertain the remote cause of the fire outbreak and recommend solutions to avert future re-occurrence.
Receiving the findings at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, the governor called for the demolition of filling stations sited within markets and residential areas.
He noted that those vending kerosene and other inflammable goods inside markets should be relocated to a new place.
“We don’t want such disasters again. Poor handling of inflammable materials inside markets is the cause of this outbreak.
“We will fortify our fire service brigade by procuring more fire fighting equipment that will assist them in the discharge of their duties,’’ Obiano said.
He, however, commended the committee and the Fire Service Agency for their timely response to fire issues.
Peter Uyanwa, traditional ruler of Ukwulu, commended Governor Obiano’s effort at stopping the vending of kerosene and petroleum products within market environment.
Uyanwa, who doubled as chairman, of the Panel of Enquiry said: “there is need for the Anambra State Fire Service to conduct annual fire risk assessment through fire safety inspection in every market and public buildings’’.
Nwajiobi calls for installation of Traffic Light at Nibo Market Junction
Ifeanyichukwu Nwajiobi, a concerned citizen of Nibo community, Awka South Local Government Area, LGA, has called on Anambra State government to install traffic lights to help to minimise accidents in the area.
He also suggested in the installation of speed breakers at Eke Nibo junction to stem accidents.
Nwajiobi expressed serious concerns over reckless driving by some motorists plying the Amawbia-Eke Nibo Market Junction and those approaching the junction from Nise, Umuawulu and Nibo ends.
He condemned incessant accidents recorded daily in the area that claimed many lives in the past.
`Nwajiobi, however, called on Governor Willie Obiano to look into poor electricity supply to Nibo Community. There has been a drop in supplies lately to the area.
He commended Governor Obiano for the speed breakers installed at Regina Caeli Junction, Awka.
Nwajiobi, thanked, Eze Michael Ngene, traditional ruler of the community, for his commitment toward proactive piloting of affairs of the community.
