Government inaugurates Seed, Soil Laboratory

ANAMBRA State government has inaugurated a Seed and Soil laboratory at the Ministry of Agriculture, Agricultural Development Programme, ADP, Complex, Awka.

Governor Willie Obiano, who was represented by Afam Mbanefo, commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanisation, Processing and Export,  enjoined farmers, stakeholders and input providers to maximally utilise the laboratory to achieve its full purpose.

Obiano assured that more seed multiplication centres would be developed for the state to achieve standardisation of agricultural produce.

Nnamdi Agwuncha, Anambra State programme coordinator, IFAD, and Value Chain Development Programme, VCDP, explained that the programme assisted greatly in the establishment of the seed laboratory to ensure that primary production in the value chain was strengthened.

According to Agwuncha, the laboratory will improve agricultural produce in the state as well as livelihood of the Ndi Anambra.

Nwaoma Olujie, coordinator, Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON,  described standardisation as the bedrock of any agricultural development.

He also noted that it started from the planting to harvesting up until the stage of export.

Jude Nwankwor, ADP manager, thanked IFAD-VCDP for their immense support, and assured of judicious use of the laboratory as well as its sustainability.
