ANAMBRA State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji has called on public spirited Ndi Anambra in The Diaspora to support the flood victims in the state.

He made this call in Awka while receiving delegates of the ‘Ogbako’ Ndi Anambra from Warri, Delta State who came to visit the flood Displace Persons’ camps in the state with relief materials.

The commissioner thanked the delegates for the items which comprised bags of 5kg rice, cartons of noodles and cash.

He said that the flood affected eight Local Government Areas in the state, destroying homes, farmlands, schools, Healthcare Centres and business ventures and as well killed some persons.

“It is quite unfortunate that a lot of people were chased out from the comfort of their homes into IDP camps for safety; even farmlands along the tributes of the river Niger in my hometown, Akwa-Ukwu were also destroyed.”

Commissioner Onyenji, then, bemoaned the negligence of the Federal Government in taking preventive measures against the flood disaster noting that it has not taught it wise to invest in the protection of the people.

He commended Gov. Charles Soludo for his immediate actions in rescuing the victims and for the several roads projects awarded for construction around the state noting that very soon the issue of bad roads in the state would be a thing of the past.

He said that the visit was to support the flood victims with the little palliatives they came with, noting that what affected the state affected them also.

The immediate past Chairman, Ogbako Ndi Anambra, Warri, a native of Ichida, Ichie T. Ezejelue called on everyone to support the good works of the state governor in building a better Anambra.

Afterward, the commissioner led the delegation to meet with the Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim for a presentation before proceeding to the displaced persons’ camps in Agulueri and Anaku to share the relief materials.
