GOV. Umaru Bago of Niger has inaugurated five solar boreholes constructed by the state government at the permanent orientation camp of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in the state.
Bago, represented by Alhaji Abdullahi Legbo, Permanent Secretary, General Service, said that the boreholes would ensure adequate water supply in the camp.
He tasked corps members to join in the journey of nation building, saying that NYSC remains one of the strongest tools for maintaining national unity and development.
“The scheme has been able to sustain its mandate of mobilising Nigerian graduate youths and instilling in them noble qualities of patriotism, teamwork, integrity and tolerance,” he said.
Bago commended corps members for their contributions to the developmental strides in all sectors of the economy, saying the scheme remains a beacon of hope for the future of Nigeria.
He advised corps members to leverage on the Federal Government’s “Digital Literacy for All” campaign, in collaboration with the NYSC, saying developed economies are technology-driven.
The governor gave the assurance that the state government would continue to provide an enabling environment for corps members and provide befitting orientation camp for their comfort.
He called on security agencies to partner with the government to ensure the safety of corps members in the state.
Earlier in her welcome address, Mrs Olayinka Abdulwahab, NYSC Coordinator in Niger, commended the governor for creating enabling environment for the scheme to carry out its mandates in the state.
She urged the corps members to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to learn a skill and nurture it.
Abdulwahab commended the corps members for their exemplary behaviour and urged them to remain at their best behaviours throughout the orientation course and beyond.
Also, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, Secretary to Niger State Government (SSG) and Chairman of NYSC Governing Board, urged corps members to promote national unity and development.
Usman, represented by Mr Paul Timothy, Director in the SSG Office, advised them to respect the cultures and traditions of their host communities throughout their service year.
He said the board remained committed to facilitating accommodation, transportation, security and other essential amenities for the corps members during their service year.(NAN)
