GOVERNORSHIP candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADP), Mr Sani Dawop, says he will build a united, secure, peaceful and prosperous Plateau if elected as governor.

Dawop told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Jos that the state had been divided along ethnic and religious lines that exacerbated insecurity.

The governorship candidate said that the solution lay in unity of purpose and not in divisions.

“Our solution lies in electing a leader that has a vision that will take Plateau to its Eldorado and that is what we would provide for the people of the state.

“Our mission is to provide leadership that is just, fair, equitable and to create an enabling environment where every Plateau man will achieve his or her self-actualisation without discrimination.

“When you have fair, just and equitable leadership, you are likely to carry everybody along and that vision of having peace will be achieved.

“The vision of having unity will be achieved and that vision of having prosperity will also be achieved.

“We have a three-point agenda – security and sustainable peace, revitalisation of the economy through mining, tourism, agriculture and industrialisation, and social and infrastructural development,’’ he said.

Dawop also told NAN that as a master degree holder in security and strategic studies, he has an edge over other contenders vying for the position on how to better secure the state.

He said he would integrate stakeholders in security management to better secure Plateau communities.

According to him, security cannot be achieved by force alone; it must be complemented by non-kinetic approach which is often ignored.

“If you don’t address unemployment, you will have to contend with security issues. You must also address the issue of poverty because when people are very poor, they are already insecure.

“You also need to deal with the issue of hunger. And the fourth aspect is managing crime.

“When you tackle these four aspects, substantially, you have dealt with security issues, more than 50 per cent,’’ he stressed. (NAN)
