Governor Willie Obiano has directed relevant authorities in the state to commence immediate enforcement of ban on street trading across the state.

Obiano said street traders were also prone to be victims of accidents on major roads and highways.

The governor gave the directive when he visited the accident victims currently receiving treatment at the Toronto Hospital, Onitsha.

On March 13, kerosene laden tanker failed brake at Upper Iweka, close to the Toronto Hospital, Onitsha and rammed into street trader in the area, leading to several deaths injuries.

Obiano was informed that the accident claimed 10 lives and  seriously injuring seven others.

According to the governor, the victims will be treated free of charge by the state government.

He urged the people of Anambra to always insure their property against eventualities so as to get relief in case of any incidents like this.

The governor also used the opportunity to inform the people of  Anambra about the state’s newly launched medical insurance scheme at which premium of N1, 000 is paid monthly to access Medicare.

“We have Medical Health Insurance Scheme in Anambra. I encourage Ndi Anambra to invest in Health Insurance Scheme for quality health services,’’ he added.

The governor noted that adequate investigative measures would be deployed to ascertain the remote causes of the accident.

He, then, commended the medical personnel at the hospital for their prompt medical response to the victims.
