A group of people under the auspices of Rakibu Development Association of Rano-Kibiya-Bunkure community on Wednesday appealed to Gov. Abba Yusuf to  reject any attempt to scrap the newly-created five emirates in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the  leader of the group, Malam Wali Ado Rano, made the appeal while addressing newsmen in Kano.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  reports that the immediate past administration of Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, created Rano, Karaye, Bichi and Gaya emirates in addition to the Kano Emirate.

“In the exercise of our collective freedom of expression, we organised this conference to emphasise our position on the sustainability of our restored emirates. “

“We should make it clear that sustaining these emirates has the aspiration of the vast majority of our area.

” Secondly the sustenance is not by any means meant to despise Kano Emirate or any personality as perceived by narrow minded elements; therefore, our bond of brotherhood would continue to exist between the people of the restored emirates and those of Kano Emirate.”

Rano noted that  upgrading of traditional rulers was not something new in Nigeria, the promotion of village heads to district or district heads to emirs had been a continuous right from the Fulani Jihad to the present day.

“The sustenance of our hitherto existing emirates as well as upgrading of district to emirates should not be viewed with negative political connotation.

” On account of Rano in particular, it has existed as an autonomous kingdom and ruled by several Kings – Kwarrarfa and Habe; Rano had continued to be an independent entity with many towns and villages under its domain.

“Infact Rano like Kano, was one of the famous Seven Hausa States founded by the legendary of Bagauda.

” Even the Fulani Jihad did not deprive Rano of its continuous existence as an independent kingdom.

” It was the same destructive colonial force that took away its emirate in 1908 and reduced it to district status, having been forcefully annexed to Kano Emirate economically.

“Rano Emirate constitutes an asset of economic prosperity when its potentials are appropriately tapped and utilised.”

He said the sustainability of the emirate would pave the way for the development of additional cities which effectively reduced the chaotic living conditions of Kano city.

“The sustenance may also lead to the creation of new district, thereby making accessibility to the traditional leaders of the people much easier.”

“We’re very sure the governor will no doubt, not listen to those people calling for the dissolution of our emirates because our people from our emirates voted for him and did not listen to his opponents whose campaign was not to elect him.

Rano urged the general public to intensity efforts in prayers for the peaceful coexistence of the state and the nation at large. (NAN)
