RAISING New Voices Initiative, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has named Prof. Oluremi Sonaiya, the 2015 Presidential Candidate of KOWA Party, as its Chairman, Board of Directors.
It also named four members of the board, including Hamzat Lawal, the Founder and CEO of Follow The Money and Connected Development; and Lois Auta-Udonkanta, Founder and CEO of CedarSeed Foundation and Network of Disabled Women.
Others are Joel Oseiga, member, World Economic Forum Global Shapers Community; and Saadatu Falila Hamu, Founder and Managing Partner, Hamu Legal.
The Director of Communications, Mr. Victor Terhemba, said in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos, that the formal constitution of the board is effective from July 1.
He said that the new directors were joining Mr. Adebanke Ilori-Oyeniyi, Executive Director, and Mr. Jude Feranmi Adejuwon, who is the convener of the initiative, to run the organisation’s affairs.
“The formal constitution of the board is in line with the organisation’s efforts to double down on its efforts on inclusive governance for young leaders, women, and people living with a disability.
“It is also in line with our advocacy on legislative reforms which impact directly on this demographic as well as the inclusion of citizens who belong to the demographic,” Terhemba said.
He said that with these appointments, the board members’ specific roles would be to provide guidance for the attainment of the organisation’s objectives.
Terhemba said that their appointment would serve as a reference for the organisation in certain instances, adding that they would be required to attend a quarterly board meeting (totalling four times in a calendar year), amongst other responsibilities.
According to him, the meetings are to provide context to the workings and operations of the organisation, while also enabling other members to benefit from their wealth of experience, network, and advice.
He pledged the organisation’s commitment to raising a new breed of political leaders and voices for change, especially those who would pursue an agenda of development and progress for the country and the younger generation.
Terhemba also said that the group would continue to lead the quest for driving youth political participation in Nigeria and demand fundamental reforms from the government. (NAN)
