THE Nigeria Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Council (NENYLC) has appealed to Nigerians to shun violence and destruction sequel to the scarcity of new Naira notes.
President of the group, Mr Terry Obieh, made the appeal in a statement he issued to newsmen on Friday in Abuja.
He said the group urged the youths to focus their attention on the peaceful conduct of the next elections instead of engaging in social vices.
Obieh said that the council had postponed it’s proposed presidential debate indefinitely over the persisting scarcity of the redesigned naira notes.
He said that the debate that was earlier scheduled for Thursday was expected to provide a ground where the three leading presidential candidates would present their manifesto on youth development agenda.
“We regret to announce postponement of NENYLC planned National Youth Conversation On Youth Agenda and Peaceful Coexistence Manifesto Presentation 2023 by the leading presidential candidates.
Obieh said: “The difficulty Nigerians are currently experiencing in obtaining the redesigned naira notes informed this hard decision.
“Having observed the growing tension across the country occasioned by the new currency policy, we are appealing to the Nigerian youths to remain calm and resolute.
“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to address to prevail on CBN to find quicker ways of exiting the current hardship the citizens are currently passing through.”
He added that the group also called Buhari to ensure neutrality in the electioneering processes, especially on issues of national security and economic revival
”All law enforcement agencies and institutional security architecture to form a common synergy and remain steadfast to ensure watertight security during the elections,”Obieh urged.
