A coalition of elders in Nigeria has urged the president-elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu to establish an agency on ethics and values to revive moral standards in the country.
The group under the auspices of National Council of Elders on Ethics and Values, said this at its maiden meeting, in Abuja.
Mrs Sarah Jibril, former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, Convener of the meeting, said it was important to have an agency saddled with the responsibility of repositioning the country in the right part.
According to her, the era of discipline, integrity, dignity of labour, social justice, religious tolerance, self-reliance and patriotism had continued to be on a decline.
She added that all citizens must be able to make positive and useful contributions to the advancement of the nation, as such there was need for ‘a reawakening’.
She added that the agency, if established, would help to enhance the power, prestige and good name of the country and bring back its former glory.
“Presently, the world needs men and women who would put character above wealth as well as those who will make not lose their individuality in a crowd.
“Those who would be honest in small things as in great things and those who will not say they will do it because everybody else is doing it.
“This agency, once established would be mandated to bring back moral uprightness as every aspect of life successes is rooted in the respect of ethics and values,” she said.(NAN)
