FOODClique Support Initiative, a charitable organisation,  will distribute about 25,000 meals to vulnerable households in Lagos State during the festive season, in an effort to tackle hunger.

The Chief Executive Officer of the organisation,  Mr Ibrahim Onilegbale, gave the assurance at a news conference on Monday in Lagos.

He said that the gesture would be in partnership with Sony Music Nigeria.

“This outreach and food relief intervention will hold this festive period to provide hope and support to vulnerable households, and they will not have to worry about their meals for at least seven days.

“We would provide 500 food boxes of 10kg each containing non-perishable food items such as rice (2kg), garri (cassava flakes, 2kg), wheat (1kg), spaghetti (1kg) noodles (720g), Semovita (1kg), tomatoes (paste, 250g) and vegetable oil (750ml).

“It will also contain items such as Maggi (150g), salt (500g) and sugar (500g). It will feed a family of five to 10 people for seven days, totalling up to 50 meals in a box multiplied by 500 boxes equals 25,000 meals.

“These are efforts to achieve a zero hunger nation. Together, we can build a better world and achieve a zero-hunger world through our collective efforts,” he said.

Onilegbale said the organisation  distributed about 13 million meals in 2023 in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Kwara, Edo, Kogi, Niger, Gombe, Nasarawa, Kano, Delta, Imo, Rivers, and Abuja.

He said that Foodclique’s mission was to alleviate hunger and improve food security by rescuing surplus food, distributing nutritious meals and empowering communities through education and sustainable practices.

“Since inception, we have been at the forefront of fighting hunger, using various programmes such as community kitchen and free school meal for children of low-income parents.

“We also champion the cause of ending hunger via programme such as Box of Hope for the elderly, Inmate Relief Programme for prisoners, Family Meal, Food Hampers for the destitute or homeless, and hunger advocacy. (NAN)
